Modern Solutions for Treating Spider Veins and Varicose Veins

Aesthetic Vascular Surgery

What is Aesthetic Vascular Surgery?

Aesthetic Vascular Surgery primarily concerns spider veins, reticular veins and small varicose veins that do not cause symptoms, health risks, or any other problems in the majority of patients.

“Broken” veins in the legs are called spider veins and are simply dilated superficial skin veins. They usually follow a winding course and appear to start from a central point, radiating outward in all directions.

They may be isolated (as is more common in the thigh area), but they are often associated with underlying dilated subcutaneous veins (reticular veins) that are insufficient. They remain usually asymptomatic and primarily affect the appearance of your legs, especially in patients with fair and thin skin.

Characteristics of Spider Veins

Treatment Methods

The cosmetic concern caused by spider veins of the lower limbs is treated with modern and effective techniques.

Sclerotherapy

The main treatment method involves injecting a special sclerosing solution in different concentrations using very fine needles. It is usually painless and leads to the clotting and gradual absorption/disappearance of spider veins within 20–30 days.

Laser

An alternative method that uses laser energy to treat spider veins with precision and effectiveness.

Radiofrequency

A modern technique that uses radiofrequency energy for the effective treatment of reticular veins.

Electrolysis (Ohmic Lysis)

A specialized method that uses electrical energy to treat spider veins.

Important Information

It is important that this is made clear to the patient and that they are thoroughly informed by their treating vascular surgeon before deciding to proceed with the procedure.
